Food and Drink

At Benedict House, we promote healthy nutritional choices in line with NHS and Public Health England (PHE) guidance. Mealtimes are calm, social learning opportunities where children develop healthy habits and increased independence.

Our approach includes:

  • Fresh drinking water available all day and milk offered at morning snack
  • Nutritious lunches following healthy eating standards
  • Consideration of allergies, intolerances and cultural needs
  • Encouraging independence in serving food, pouring drinks and using cutlery
  • Creating a relaxed, social atmosphere during mealtimes
  • Working closely with parents to support dietary needs

Healthy eating is essential for children’s growth, energy and brain development. We follow government standards on food safety. Children are offered:

  • Fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Low-sugar, low-salt snacks
  • Balanced food options that support long-lasting energy

Healthy eating forms part of our EYFS Curriculum and is taught through play, conversation, stories and routines.

Fresh drinking water is available throughout the day indoors and outdoors. Children are encouraged to drink regularly, especially during warm weather and physical play. Across Pre School and Reception, water bottles are clearly labelled and accessible.
