MFL – French and Spanish

At Benedict House Preparatory School, learning a modern foreign language is an important part of our curriculum and supports pupils in developing confidence curiosity and cultural awareness. All pupils from Reception to Year 6 learn French and pupils in Years 1 to Year 6 also learn Spanish ensuring a strong and progressive language experience throughout their time at the school.

Both French and Spanish are taught by native speakers in weekly 30 minute lessons. Teaching is engaging and interactive with a strong focus on listening and speaking skills alongside the gradual introduction of reading and writing as pupils progress. Lessons make use of songs games repetition and practical activities to help children develop accurate pronunciation build vocabulary and gain confidence in using language in meaningful contexts.

Through MFL pupils are encouraged to explore other cultures and ways of life helping to foster respect empathy and a broader understanding of the world. By the time pupils leave Benedict House they have developed a secure foundation in both French and Spanish preparing them well for language learning at secondary school and beyond.
