The EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) is the statutory framework that sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to age 5. It ensures children develop key skills, knowledge and attitudes to learning, laying the foundation for future success in school.
Learning is delivered through a mix of child-initiated play and adult-led activities. As a school, we enhance the EYFS curriculum with additional subjects (e.g. French, music and PE), while still focusing on the seven key areas of learning outlined in the framework.
We provide targeted support through differentiated activities and, if necessary, involve the school’s SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) coordinator. As we offer small class sizes, we are able to deliver more individualised support for each child.
We value strong home–school partnerships. Parents are kept up to date through email, newsletters, regular reports, parents’ evenings, and ClassDojo. We also operate an open-door policy, encouraging parents to raise any concerns so that we can respond in a timely manner.
The EYFS prepares children socially, emotionally, and academically for formal schooling. At the end of Reception, class teachers will complete the EYFS Profile, which is shared with Year 1 staff to ensure a smooth transition and continuity in learning. The children will have transitional time with their Year 1 teacher during the second half of the summer term and their daily timetable will shift slightly to align with the Year 1 timetable come September.
